Hi. I hope some of you can help inform me.

My head is a bit beaten at the minute. I have just come off the phone to my dad's wife who had the results of his bone scan today, he has been fighting prostate cancer now for 7 years, it has been kept at bay in the past with a mixture of radiotherapy, casadex tablets and zolodex injections.

For about a year now he has been having Zolodex injections alone, his blood count reached 332 last month and he started to take casadex with Zolodex which did bring his blood level down.

His results came back that the cancer has spread into his bones from his legs-rib's-head. He has to have an injection tomorrow to strengthen his bones to stop them from breaking and also have a zolodex injection. The consultant said he cannot offer radiotherapy as it's spread too much

I know this is a stupid question but what does this mean other than the obvious |? could he have day's week's months or years of life left ? I ask this because he lives in Spain and I live in France with my three children, I do not want to panic at the last minute but do not want to rush into anything. I'm sorry for waffling

any help or advice would be appreciated

Jessica x

Jessica, I am truly sorry about your father's cancer. I am especial sad to hear that it has spread to his bones. When you said that his "blood count reached 332" I assume you are talking about his PSA level (?). That is very high! It sounds like you are very well informed about his condition.

Unfortunately, there is no way to tell you how much longer your father has. However, I would guess it is months rather than days. Having said that, I know that if it was my father, I would be planing a visit to him in the very near future. Is he currently at home or in a hospital? I would not panic, but I would go see him as soon as possible. But that is just my personal opinion. I was fortunate to be able to live with my father during his last years of life. He died September 2006 for an infection secondary to Leukemia.

I will be thinking about and praying for you as you make this very difficult decision. I will also keep your father in my thoughts and prayers.
