My name is Jim and I was diagonosics PC in March of 2005. Prior to my being the real deal diagnostic. I first received a letter that I an not eligable for a whipple as this time. Lets Have Some Radiation and Lets hope it reduces with Chemo, Doctor stated that this was very serious but we are moving on. After the operation (11/05/06) With this difficult recovery I went back on chemo and radiation again. Thinks looked good but I was required to have a second operation for SCAR tissue. Then another similuar surgery whivh removed a good porporation of my primary tumor) It is 2 weeks short of me being able to stsrt medicare, I thing I will continue using Cobra to the end of the anuar start/chage Dates. The doctors tell me to live my life the best I can, while I can. If I can help any one on questions please contact me.

Hi Jim,

It is good to hear from another one who is still with us. After my own three year PC survival, I know for a fact that this is a really big deal to make it this long. PC is messy bad stuff, but in some cases, with good treatment, we can outlive the doctors' expectations by some significant period of time.

By now I am under hospice care, but that means relatively little. They stopped the chemo because it wasn't working, but that doesn't mean an immediate fast decline - just that they see no way to stop the cancer. So I am having an exciting time keeping going through progressive bodily failures. But so far the mental ability is still here, along with the desire to keep in touch.

You might be interested to know that my employer has been good enough to me to allow me to continue to telecommute, and do my engineering work from home. So in spite of three plus years of PC, the company-provided health insurance continues, which has paid for round after round of radiation and chemo, and now is handling the hospice costs. As long as I can do my part and get my work done, this provides not only the income and insurance, but something to do all day to keep my mind off of my health issues. That is important, by the way, in that there is as big a mental game as a physical game involved in keeping this (or any other) cancer at bay. It helps to be thoroughly involved in doing something else, something which takes all of the concentration, and keeps the mind from stopping at some "woe is me" point.

Good to hear from you, and I hope things continue as well as they possibly can.

Marty

Hi Jim and Marty,

Today just happens to be exactly, 22 months (12-16-2005) since my Whipple (PC diagonosic on 12-3-2005) and I have also been blessed by God to be here. I have followed Marty's blog for a long time and greatly admire him. Jim you have had a time of it and I hope things will improve for you. Medicare will be a blessing but you might need a supplement to offset what Medicare does not pay. God bless all of you on this forum.

Ken
