Anyone have a port for chemo surgically implanted? If so, what is the surgery like? Do they put you asleep for this? Do they keep the port in when chemo is finished? Is there pain?

Thanks...

my mother just had one put in. It was an in and out proceedure. She had it done in about an hour. She was able to come right home afterwards. She did say it hurt a little but they did give her something for pain.

alotaluv, as passcon93 said, it usually is a simply procedure. Of course, it depends on the overall health of your mother all surgery does have some degree of risk. I would talk with your mother's medical team to assess those risks. But in the long run it makes the administration of the chemotherapy so much easier since they do not need to put a needle into your mother's arm every time Confused .

Best wishes to you and to your mother.
