Hi Kara,

I'm also in stage 4, and have a sub-type of Diffuse Large B-Cell called Mediastinal Large B-Cell Lymphoma.

I was given 6 courses of R-ProMace Cytabom (Rituxan, Adriamycin, Etoposide, Prednisolone, Cytarabine, Bleomycin, Vincristine, Methotrexate) then 2 courses of a salvage regimen, R-DHAP (Rituxan, Dexamethasone, Cisplatin, Cytarabine)

All involved sites except the main tumor in my chest cleared up after 3 chemos, but after a total of 8 the main tumor was still there. (It had shrunk to 1.4cm x 1.0cm from an initial size of 10cm x 7cm x 12cm). My doc said i've had enough chemos so I underwent radiotherapy to get rid of the residual tumor. My doc is confident that I will achieve a remission after this (I will have another PET scan soon to find out!)

Take care,
Cubie

Cubie, I do not want to hijack Kara's topic but I do have a question for you: Has your medical team ruled out surgical removal of the chest tumor that is remaining? Sometimes, if chemo has shrunk a tumor that much they will remove the rest by surgery. Just a question.

Both of you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Hi Jim,

My doc said that surgery isn't possible and I was so anxious to talk about my chemo that I forgot to ask why...! Razz Razz

I know how "forgetting" is. It is amazing that I can have an important question to ask but totally forget it when the doctor comes into the room Laughing. I keep a medical journal in which I write all of my questions and the doctor's answers. I take that journal with me to my doctor's appointments. That way, if I forget, it is written down in the journal. It has become a running joke for my doctor to come in and ask: "OK, were is the journal? What questions have you written?" Wink

I did go on and create this new topic for you so that I could reply to you without risking hijacking Kara's topic. You will need to re-post your message to here and edit your original post to this topic. You can change the name of it by editing the subject of the first post to this topic.

You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Hi Jim,

I do bring a steno pad with me.. I'm sometimes too busy writing things down that I don't have enough time to ask follow-up questions. Anyway, I'll ask him at my next consult..! Smile

Good for you, Cubie. A steno pad will do nicely. I took the time to blog an outline of an ideal medical journal. Take a look it my blog. You will find a link to it in my signature block Smile
