Would a Dermatologist be better? What is this ?

My 38 year old brother was just diagnosted with level IV Malignant Melanoma. Having a large mole/tumor growth removed off his stomach and lymph nodes removed under his left arm. As a family we are all covered with moles. Because of his diagnosis it has been suggested that we all have our moles looked at asap. I myself have too many to count, all shapes and sizes, but going by the ABCD's they seem "OK". I intend on being "professionaly" inspected though which brings me to my question. Should I bypass a family doctor, (I really don't have one, and probably would just refer me), and go DIRECTLY to a Dermatologist who specializes in skin. I'm thinking with my family history and number of moles they would probably be better suited to help me. Am I off base here?

Hello

My impression is that you should see a Dermatologist, since they see this everyday and can do biopsies right away if necessary.

Hey, mm - I agree with leo. I would go with the dermatologist. They tend to be more thorough. Although, if you have insurance, some dermos need a referral from your family doctor.
