i am a 43 yo female. i have gerd and barretts esophagus for which i will have to take prilosec for the rest of my life. in october i started having really bad pain in my middle left back. i thought it was orthopedic until the really bad gas, bloating and diahrea started.
it is a burning and at times stabbing pain right in the organ itself. my family doc sent me for an abdominal and pelvic ct scan when i told him i have this pain when i eat. the ct scan came back normal with a mild fatty liver.
i then had an "office visit" with a gastro, who after our discussion of my symptoms, told me i had pancreatitis and put me on panocaps which are pancreatic enzymes saying that "these should make the pain go away" and if they do then you'll need to see a specialist.
well, it seems like they help at times but not really so much. my point is this - is it possible to have PC and get a "normal" ct scan when they are not focusing directly on the pancreas but on my abdomen as a whole - this ct scan was done prior to seeing the gastro.
i am waiting a call back from the gastro so i can tell him i want to see a specialist anyway. also, can coffee contribute to the pain and negate the effectiveness of the enzymes? i only drink one cup a day. thank you.

Hi Lainey, I am truly sorry about your current health conserns. It does sound like you are on the right track by asking to see a specialist.

I can offer you no opinion about your particular CT Scan because I do not know if it took any images of the Pancreas. In those cases where the CT does include the Pancreas, Pancreatic Cancer would have been noticed regardless of the main focus of the radiologist. I do know that sometimes Pancreatic Cancers are not easily detected on a CT Scan but most of the time, CT is a good imaging method for PC.

Continue to work with your medical team to try to resolve totally your problem. You might want to stop drinking or eating anything with caffeine for a while and see if it helps.

Regards.
