It's been awhile since my last post. Things have been kind of rough these last few weeks. But J D's battle with this monster is over. He went home to be with his Lord on Friday December 28 2007 at 7:45 p.m. I want to say thank you to everyone for the prayers and support I received on this forum. You all will be in my prayers and I will continue to post from time to time. The road was a very hard road to travel, but with the help of our Lord we got through it. I know the days and weeks ahead will be so very hard, but with his help I'll be O k. If anyone needs to talk, I'll be here for you. May God bless each and everyone.

Love and prayers,

Linda Gale

Linda Gale, I am so deeply sorry about your husband's death. Pancreatic Cancer is such a devestating cancer. How is your son doing? Your husband was so young and your son is too young to have his father die.

You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Hello, Linda --

Please accept my condolences on the passing of JD. I have read your postings since October with dread, hearing no good news, reading no hopeful words. Others who have replied to you did so on behalf of all of us. Most of us who post here regularly just watched and waited and prayed, knowing that you didn't need all of us ...but just one or two to do the talking.

Please know that you did all you could. From your writings I know that the doctors tried hard as well, but there is no stopping this disease once it takes hold. Your first post came October 11, almost one year to the day that my brother was diagnosed. Geoff was buried two days before last Christmas. The progress from diagnosis to death was steady and relentless.

My young niece visited over this New Year's. We talked about her father's passing and what good, if anything, we could take from the whole ordeal. We both concluded that despite his weakness and his deteriorating condition, we had the gift of time with him -- time to talk, time to cry, time to pray, time to hope. We had 8 weeks to realize that although there would be no reprieve from this horror, we had all of him for the time we had left. We didn't have to vie with chores, with work, with other obligations that always seem to rob human beings of real togetherness.

He knew he was doomed, we knew it, the doctors knew it. Only with this gift of "time" could we say to each other all the things we should have said over the years but were too busy to say. We had time to read together, sing together, drink iced tea together, play cards together. We could speak of life here on earth and "life" in eternity. We could mix up the "whys" with the "why nots" and come out of the tears with some laughs mixed in. Time was what we got.

And he had time to prepare for meeting his God, for reuniting with his parents and for high-fiving those beloved friends he lost in Vietnam.

I hope that you had the same kind of time with JD and that the time ahead will be healing for both you and your son.

Fondly,

Big Sister
