My dad was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer in Dec 07. He had the Whipple done on Feb 4. He has lost alot of weight since then and having a very hard time keeping things down. They started tube feedings last week. He talked to the oncologist last week. The tumor went through his stomach and on the lymph nodes. After the sugery we were told that the lymph nodes and all other organs were clean. It was classified as a Stage 4. He starts radiaton and chemo(pill form) in April. What are the chances of this recurring? i thought that we were in good shape and maybe able to beat this but now i am not sure.

Dear Kitty,
I am so sorry to hear about your father.
I lost my father so quickly and so my best advice to you is to do as I did and spend as much time as you can with him.
I hope that any treatment he receives is a help. Treatment was too late for my dad but at least he suffered little pain.
Just make your dad feel comfortable and happy and enjoy the time with him as best you can.
This cancer is so awful and it has changed my life forever.

Hi Kitty01. I am very sorry about your father's Pancreatic Cancer. PC is such a terrible cancer! I do not have any statistical information to give you, but I do know that if it is a stage 4 it will most likely recur. It is an aggressive cancer and needs to be treated very aggressively. Even then, his chances of living more the 2-3 years is very low.

You might want to read some of the posts by a member of this community who died of PC last fall. freeio's courage was an inspiration to many of us. His blog is very good as well.

He is been doing some what better until the past couple of days. He has been thowing up alot especially at night. They have increased his tube feedings to daytime as well. They have an Upper GI scheduled for next week to see if there is a blockage is that normal or is this another possible set back or the cancer redeveloping?
