Deaths from cervical cancer could jump fourfold to a million a year by 2050, mainly in developing countries. The deaths could be avoided with the soon-to-be-approved vaccine against the human papilloma virus. But opposition to the vaccine is already surfacing. Girls would need to be vaccinated before becoming sexually active, which could be a problem in developing countries and with religious groups.
