i had a d&c with hysteroscopy on feb. 4. afterwards the doctor told
me everything looked good. she said she removed a polyp, which isn't
uncommon, and that she would send it to pathology, but not to worry,
because they almost never come back cancerous. well, this morning i
got a call from her personally telling me that she was aware that i
had an appointment in about a week, but the pathology report came
back, and i needed to come over to discuss it. i am still a little
confused. she first said that it is not the worst thing. she
mentioned a typical, and i think she said carcinoma in situ. but i
have no idea what these mean. she showed me the report briefly, and
said she agrees with the pathologist, that i should have a
hysterectomy. she said she was going to try to leave my ovaries, and
remove my uterus vaginally. that she would be using a
laporoscope???? my big question is, if she removed the polyp, and
scraped out the lining, why do i need the hysterectomy?? i want
another child, and am in no way ready to give up on that dream. is
there anyone out there with any suggestions??? Question
thanks for any help you can give.

Confusing, isn't it? The pathology indicates that there are abnormal cells, which could possibly develop into cancer. By excising them, the intention is to prevent cancer developing.

This site is a fairly clear explanation: http://tinyurl.com/37jxwu

I am so sorry you are having to face this decision. Perhaps more discussion with the doctors about the possible risks would be advisable. And, of course, you could ask for a consultation with another doctor.

I just found out that I have adenocarcinoma of the cervix (in-situ) as well. Hugs! Have you spoken to a gyno oncologist yet?
