I am new to this. I have had an intermittent pain in LUQ for 9 weeks, have now had a CT scan which says:

a small bowel thickening in LUQ anterior to left renal hilum,
no stranding into mesentary
several retroperitoneal and mesenteric nodes
prominent extra renal hilum
prominence of bowel wall in caecum

Can anybody give me a clue to what this might mean? The specialist said a possible lymphoma. I'm going in for a colonoscopy and endoscopy in 6 days (51 YO female). I am British currently on holiday in Australia and I am scared (travelling alone). They are amazingly fast here getting things done!! I only saw a gp for first time 3 weeks ago. So that end of things couldn't be better.

Thanks in advance to anybody who can tell me anything.

Hi alexaconn. I am so sorry that you are sick so far away from home. I understand the individual words for the CT report but not what all of it means. The "retroperitoneal and mesenteric nodes" are lymph nodes around your abdomen, that is why the doctor suggested that it might be a lymphoma. However, until they do a biopsy, there really is no way to tell. The other possibility is colon cancer (thickening of the caecum... cecum in the US... part of the large intestine near the appendix). Continue to work with your medical team. Ask them to go through this report with you and to explain it "plain English." Then, post what you have learned Wink.

You are in my thoughts and prayers.
