Hi all,
My mom was diagnosed with stomach cancer due to H. Pylori bacteria about 12 years ago. She had surger to remove 65% of her stomach and has been cancer free ever since. She is due for her bi-anual check up this week and just this past weekend has been having severe cramps again. She talked to me on the phone about it and was crying because she said it feels a lot like when she had cancer. I am so scared. I was only 13 then and am 25 now and I can tell you, it won't be any easier, probably harder because I understand how serious it is. I won't know anything until at least thurs and even longer if they decide to schedule an endoscopy/biobsy. I'm afraid my mom won't be stern enough to ask for an endoscopy if her doctor says to wait or says it's just stress or a flue bug. The waiting is hard and nerv racking.....
thanks for reading.... anyone know what the chances of of this type of cancer returning after 12 years??

andesue, I am very sorry about your mother health condition. I truly hope that it is not a recurrence of her cancer. What stage was her original cancer? That one fact makes a difference in her prognosis. It sound like it was a low grade cancer in which case she had a 40%-70% chance of living more than 5 years and somewhere around a 11% chance of living more than 10 years according to a study done recently in the UK.

Like me, she is a long term survivor. She could live many more years. Everyday is like Christmas... a good gift.

Thanks brainman,
What kind of cancer did you have, what stage? I'm not sure exactly the stage, I was only 13 so they didn't share a lot of information that wasn't completely necessary for me at the time. I haven't asked. I guess i will know more in a couple days. It is really hard waiting, I find myself wanting to talk to people about it but then it dawns on me that it is kind of a depressing topic and not one most people are comfortable talking about. My husband is ok to talk to be he is the typical male... wants to fix everything and what he can't fix he just says "don't think/worry about it, there is nothing you personally can do" which also doesn't help... His heart is in the right place, but he has never had to deal with anything like this on his side of the family, at least no one he was close to in any sort of way. I, however, have had an aunt(by marraige) and two uncles die of cancer. It is hard for him to understand what it feels like to basically hear a death sentence for a loved one. I'm very lucky that my mom's first bout didn't turn out that way.... hopefully we don't have to relive it. Do you know anything about cancer due to the H. Pylori bacteria? thanks again.
