Mom was diagnosed with PC on Fan 28th. She had a stint put in for the jaundice and was scheduled for an ultracound. The cancer was in the head of the pancreas and two lymph nodes. They scheduled the whipple for February 27th. When they went in they found cancer in her liver and did not do the whipple. They did a bypass instead. She just had her 1st palliative chemo last week. She is tired, nauseas, back aches, pain, etc.

The doctor said she may even live up to a year if she responds to the chemo which we find out soon. My gut is telling me different. She suddenly spaces out and falls asleep sitting in her chair. And she has a distant look as if she is already half in the thereafter.

I am at peace with mom going quickly if slowly will be painful and awful for her But it will be difficult to let her go. I have lived near her for 18 years since getting our of the service and I call her almost daily. We have watched All My Children together since I was in grade school. I do not have a friend better than she. She is my very best friend and always will be.

She says she wants to die at a hospice facility near here because she doesn't want us kids to have to change her diaper. I don't even know if that is part of the end with PC. I would like to take care of her myself but will respect her wishes.

Any thoughts are welcomed.
Stacie

Stacie,
Even though the prognosis is poor, try to be hopefull. When conventional medicine fails to produce favorable results, there are many other alternative treatments to consider. My mother didn't respond well to chemo so we have been experimenting with several alternative treatments and so far she is doing well. May I suggest reading about the Budwig diet protocol. I was very impressed by the information found and we decided to try that as well.
In regards to hospice, my mother has chosen to be cared for at her home. In speaking with her case worker, we have concluded that this is a very good program where the family is assisted with her care.
Is your mother responding favorably to the chemo? What drugs are they using? I hope she starts feeling better.
