Hi Guys, please can anybody help...

My stepdaughter was diagnosed with AML in December last year, she gained remisssion pretty quickly in April following induction chemotherapy. The hospital continued giving her chemo though on a lesser intensity until the end of May. Yesterday at a routine test the hospital notticed a lump on her chest, ran some tests and concluded that she has relapsed. Surely this cant be, she was well and her remission would have only lasted 3 months.

She is to goo back into hospital this week for both chemotherapy and radiotherapy could anyone tell me if this is normal, it just seems so quick.

She is 12yrs old, thank you for your help

chloe, I am so very sorry about your stepdaughter's AML. Cancer is so unfair! I can understand it attacking me... I have already lived "the better part" of my life. But for a 12 year older???

I know very little about AML and nothing about childhood AML. I took the liberty to copy your message to the Childhood Cancers Forum. You might find other parents here to be of more help.

You and your stepdaughter are in my thoughts and prayers.
