Hello all,
I'm new here. My mum is currently undergoing surgery to remove a brain tumour. She had a brain tumour 18 years ago and had radiotherapy after. I'm really worried this time as her health has deterioated so much since the last time that there is a big risk of infection after the surgery. I dont know any specifics on her type of tumour all I know is her last one was front lobel. My dad and sister are there at the hospital, I really wanted to be there too but I caught my lo's cold yesterday so I am stuck here feeling like rubbish in every sense of the word.

Mad, I am so sorry about the recurrence of your mother's cancer. I guess your username says it all; you must be very mad that you cannot be at the hospital with her right now.
Wow, I thought I was a long term survivor... but your mom went 18 years before a recurrence.. I only went 13. I have now survived 16 years.
You can read more about me in the links in my signature block.
I will be thinking about and praying for you and your mother. _________________ Jim

Hello "M"
My prayers & thoughts are with you at this time. I pray the surgery will be a successful one & the surgeon is able to resect the tumour recurrence, with your Mum recovering quickly & with no deficits so she can live another 18yrs!
It is terribly frustrating & maddening when you can't be with your Mum, Dad & Sis. I only lived an hour drive from my Bro but couldn't be with him all of the time. It was frustrating & still weighs heavily on me.
You are in my Prayers & thoughts & I pray you will be with your family soon to share the love & closeness.
Please keep us updated on your Mum's post surgery progress.
Love & hugs to you & your family.
Cheers, Angie. _________________ Brother diagnosed with GBMIV Feb 07

Hi,
Well she was awake and talking soon after surgery and apparently making more sense than she has in a while. She told my dad to tell me that she was ok. She had a good meal last night and Ive just heard that she has had a good night. I am also feeling a bit better so hopefully in a couple of days I'll be able to go and see her.
The professor that she is seeing this time said that she has done well to go 18 years without recurrence although we all feel that she has maybe had it for a while.
Thanks for your replies and prayers. I will keep you posted.
A much happier Madalene xx |

I realise it's a long way till she's out of the woods but it's a much better start than I dared dream of.

Most of us recovered very fast from the surgery itself. It is amazing. The brain is such a complex organ that one would thing recovery would take a long time. I guess full recovery does take a long time; I still have right sided weakness and speech problems. But in terms of feeling well enough to go home, most of us do it in just a few days.
Thanks for the update. _________________ Jim
