Last summer my father was diagnosed with brain cancer. He underwent surgery to remove it and found out that the tumor was GBM. We were originally given 9-12 months as a survival rate. It has been 10 months since the surgery and he is doing pretty well. He has had many trials in his young life (56) but has managed to keep hope. I don't know how he copes. My mother handles this with such grace as well. When I look at my life I am very grateful for what I have at the present. I pray for more time with my father and for that time to be free of pain for him. I think back to last summer and remember how happy my family was: my sons 1st birthday, my parents planning for retirement, and many plans for the future. You never expect for things to change. He has averaged about 1 grateful a month for the last 3 months (this is 3 of 5 since diagnosis). The last 2 MRI's show no new growth and shrinkage where the cavity is. I am searching for survivor stories. I know that the prognosis is real, but the recent MRI's give me hope.

I was also diagnosed with GBM 4 1/2 years ago and am still here. I had surgery then chemo, radiation, and the Gamma Knife surgery almost two years ago and I'm still doing fine. Tell your dad to stay strong and don't give up. My doctors have told me that due to being aggressive in my treatment, which was surgery then chemo for 2 years, radiation for 6 weeks, then finally the Gamma Knife treatment, I'm stable. I have a MRI done quarterly and for the past two years, nothing has changed.

Hello, my name is Joy. I'm from Texas. My husband has had 4+ cm tumor in left frontal temporal. They said it was GBM at first, but MD Anderson did path and it turned out to be a grade 2 ependymoma. They removed 80% but it grew all the way back plus some in one year. They were able to remove 99% this Jan. He had 31 rounds of radiation and temodar oral chemo after. Today his cancer is at bay, no recurrence! Thank God.

He has suffered tremendously due to 2 surgeries, radiation, chemo. It almost sounds as if your father is doing as well as my husband who has a benign tumor. Did they do more than one pathology report? Are they positive this is GBM?

Great success to you both. It's amazing to see someone 4 1/2 yr into this journey and doing so well. Terrific!
Joy

WOW, greg! This makes me feel much better. My father was just diagnosed with GBM and we are about to begin the same treatment plan you described. Hopefully, we can have the same outcome you did.

God bless! Very Happy
