It's been 10 days since my operation. I had a laparotomy. They removed appendix, one ovary & fallopian tube, lymph nodes and omentum.

An ovarian cyst had been found and it was big, so they took the other organs just in case.

Anyway, last night I vomited. I've talked to the hospital this morning because I'm still sick. I was taking Diclofenac (Voltarin) for the afterpain but haven't had any since Tuesday night. It's now Friday and it was last night when I vomited. I wasn't so much as feeling sick as I was forced to be sick - pain in my stomach and the feeling of belching.

Dinner the night before - the night I vomited - consisted of vegetables and a a couple of asian sauces. I didn't want to eat anything hard core since I've had trouble with my bowel since the operation.

Was just wondering: Is it fairly normal to vomit a week after surgery, and could it be the voltarin that's hurting my stomach or even causing me to be sick? Because I haven't had any in a couple of days, I'm a bit dubious of that. I know the effects anti-inflammatories have on your stomach over time and that is why I stopped taking them on Tuesday - before I gave myself a stomach ulcer or something.

I'm scared to eat anything because it makes the pain worse. I had a glass of soy milk this morning to try and settle my stomach, and then tried lemonade. Water is hard to drink because it tastes awful today. (I usually drink quite a bit of it.)

Have you had a post-op appointment with your medical team? It's always good idea to touch base with them especially if you continue to have problems. Some nausea and vomiting may persist as well as pain; although, these should improve overtime. Consider discussing this further with you medical team.

Sincerely,
