Hello my name is Jarawi, i have a friend who has been diagnosed with begining of skin cancer, she has white patches on her back also on her legs and was told she will have to undergo uva light therapy or PUVA, for approx 5 years, i was worried about the side effects of this and i wanted to find out more info about this therapy.
If anyone here has gone through this type of therapy, or has had similar skin problems, please post your experience, sideeffects, and how can i help her feel better. I don't really know what to say to her . I see her, and she is not so depressed now that she will soon begin her therapy, but i felt awful to find out about this PUVA therapy , i wanted to cry ,but i didn't because i didn't want to make her feel bad when she wasnt. and that it may make it worse. If you know anything that can help. please post it or email me at

thanx alot

Hi - I had PUVA light therapy maybe 25 years ago - it has been around a long time - for extensive psoriasis. I only had one treatment as it caused a burning rash all over my body. However, my sister, who also has psoriasis, has had PUVA many times and it has helped bring the plaques under control. She is fairly dark skinned compared to me (we are both Caucasians). It does not hurt and only lasts a few minutes so she has nothing to fear. She will only know if she allergic to the treatment if she has it. I hope the treatment works for her.

Thanx for sharing, So far my friend has been on this therapy for a week now, according to her doctor, PUVA is working for her, and now she feels much better about everything. I'm only worried about her eyes, because i've read that it may cause blindness. But im really happy for her because, like you said, it doesn't work for everybody. I wish the best for you and hope the same for your sister
take care
thanx

If she has the melanoma form of skin cancer, a good website for information and a forum is MPIP - Melanoma Patients? Information Page. The address is http://mpip.org
You can find plenty of information about skin cancers on the American Cancer Society website
http://www.cancer.org
They also have forums on both melanoma and nonmelanoma skin cancers. _________________ Ed Everest

I just wanted to let you know about photodynamic or blue light therapy. I hope that helps you in alternative solution for skin cancer treatment. It is helping dermatologists ward off skin cancer in patients with actinic keratoses.
Also known as solar keratoses, these scaly bumps range in size from pinhead to one inch and appear primarily in sun-exposed areas on the face, ears, head, lips and back of the hands and forearms. If left untreated, an estimated 10 percent of these precancerous lesions may eventually evolve into a type of skin cancer called squamous cell carcinoma.
Photodynamic, or blue-light, therapy for actinic keratosis can help treat and reduce the number of precancers, hopefully reduce the number of full-fledged skin cancers and possibly help in photo-rejuvenation.
You must try Trophy Skin's BlueMD. It is one of the best light therapy products for acne and other skin treatments. It provides a powerful, safe, effective and affordable blue light therapy which is approved by FDA and the American Academy of Dermatology.

I hope that solves your problem. |
