i have been having night sweats for a year, swollen lymph nodes for 6 months,i've lost a lot of weight, have no appetite,i itch i have bruises for no reason, lower back pain that started just a coupla weeks ago and my bones have started aching really bad. i asked the doc. to take out a node and biopsy it and he said he thought it was a little smaller than last week and refused saying it wasnt consistent with cancer.i had my thyroid checked and it was normal and all my tests were normal except my wbc which was slightly elevated.i also had a chest xray that looked normal.i have also been so fatigued and exhausted for 6 months that i've started taking naps, which i've never taken, not even as a baby(i am almost 34).i never get sick and always have had lots of energy and have never needed the doctor, so i know something isnt right. i am just so tired of not knowing what is wrong and i know this isnt stress related which of course the doc. suggested. also the last few days, i have noticed little red dots under my skin that weren't there before. can someone please help me know where to go with this?

Hi kdsjager,

Welcome to the cancer center.

I am not a doctor and have no medical training but can state that most of your symptoms are similar with my own experience, which resulted in a diagnosis of lymphoma. However, that does not rule out that it could be something entirely different.

In my case neither bood test or x-rays showed anything unusual, but the CT-scan hit it right on the nose, which was followed by a biopsy (of a swollen neck tissue) to confirm it.

If there were an oncologist in your area, and I were you, I think I'd schedule a visit. I think in many cases the waiting and uncertainty is worse than the desease.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Burt

You have all the symptoms I had and until I got a CT/PT scan along with a biopsy, I finally knew it was cancer. Please see an ocologist immediate, ask for a ct and pet scan along with a biopsy. These test will tell you what blood test cannot tell you. Don't put it off. Cancer can spread to other areas if you don't do anything. Don't see a regular doctor. See an ocologist. I wish you the best. Keep the faith.

those , unfortunately, are all symptoms of hodgkins. the night sweats (waking up drenched) itchiness, everything. u need to get checked out. regardless of the outcome, its imparitive that you at least get a straight answer from a real doctor who is going to do the tests that can tell you for sure (biopsy, ct, pet)

good luck

thanks everyone for replying to my post. last night, i found another lump just under my rib cage toward the left side of my abdomen.i know the lymph node chain runs right up through there so i am really worried now.i will definitely call mon. and demand a biopsy and a ct scan. i should prob. have mentioned that i meet with my ob/gyn to schedule an hysterectomy because there's also a possibility i may have cervical cancer too. they are taking me seriously on that point anyways, thanks to my pap and culpo results. i will keep everyone posted, but i just have one question, about the ct scan-how did you convince the docs. to do one if all tests came back normal?and what did it show?i need to be armed with all the info i can before i call them on monday. kds

you dont need to CONVINCE your doctors of anything. if you ask, they should honor yoru request. you have all the symptoms and if they want to prevent themselves from looking very foolish, they better step up. good luck and let me know if u have any questiosn about the tests. ive done them all. they arent a walk in the park but they are very important and will really show whats going on. if your doctor says no, go to someone else. if any good doctor heard even one ofthose symptoms, u wouldda been in that ct bed a long time ago. good luck

i'm feeling really frustrated today. i called for my xray and cbc results and the nurse was rude and said she'd have someone find my chart and call me back. i waited an hour and called again and another nurse said the previous nurse had got my chart, misfiled it, and gone home for the day.the results were normal, so i requested to see the doc. again tomorrow to demand a ct scan and a biopsy.i have to have the scan done on my abdomen, because my xray was normal so they can't ordera scan on my chest now. but last night, i hurt so bad in my left side that i was crying. it hurt to press on it, and there was sharp stabbing pains even when i didn't touch it.i don't know if it's my spleen or what.i never cry over physical pain, not even when i was a kid, so it really really hurt. i'm sorry, but i have to vent, and hate to put anymore on my husband because he has been great through all this, and he's really worried about me already. i have lost more weight and am down to a size 3,and i had a baby just 8 months ago(my 6th child). anyway, thanks everyone for listening. kds

Hi kdsjager,
I understand your frustration when waiting for results, especially when others are rude and muck you about. Fortunately not everyone is like that - my hubby and I also struck rude people but also (later) some very kind and understanding people to whom we are very grateful.

I am not a doctor and have no medical training. My husband was diagnosed last month with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma (Follicular Lymphoma - low grade, stage III). My hubby's initial blood tests and xrays showed nothing abnormal but the CT Scan (chest and abdomen) as well as the lymph node biopsy (removed) did show it - the scan was done in the morning and the biopsy that same afternoon.

It is sad to hear that your doc was most unhelpful with testing for lymphoma. Thankfully our doc first prescribed antibiotics in case of infection then promptly started testing for lymphoma. He is not too impressed with hubby's decision to first try alternative medicine treatment although he has now told us that he will be there to support us in our decision.

If I were you, I'd get a scan and possibly a biopsy done ASAP even if it is just to rule out the possibilty of lymphoma, which I hope it is not.

Be strong and hang in there. Our thoughts are with you and your family. Also, remember: information is your best friend.

Good luck!
