I have been going to the Gastro doctor for the past six months complaining of adominal pain. I have been dianosed with GERD for many years, but this pain is different. I had my gallbadder remove in 2/04. I had a CT scan Nov 15, 04. The results are as follows:
"Abdomen: A tiny, approx. 3mm nodule is identified in the right lung base. A small, approx. 5mm pleural based nodule is present in the lingula. the lung bases are otherwise clear. A punctate calcification is present in the left lobe of the liver consistent with prior granulomatous disease. A tiny, approx. 5mm, low attentuation lesion is present in the right lobe of the liver. The liver and spleen are otherwise unremarkable. The patient is status post cholecystectomy. The adrenals, kidneys, and pancreas appear normal. The visualized portions of bowel appear normal. The aorta is calcified consistent with atherosclerotic disease.
Pelvis: The distal ureters and urinary bladder appear normal. The patient appears to be in status post hysterectomy. The visualized portions of the bowel appear normal. The aorta is calcified, consistent with atherosclerotic disease."
IMPRESSION: 1. "Tiny, approx. 3mm, nonspecific nodule in right lung Base on Image 5 and small Pleural based nodule in the Lingula. The differential Diagnosis would include GRANULOMA, LYMPH NODE, HAMARTOMA, FIBROSIS, or LESS LIKELY, NEOPLASTIC PROCESS. Concider a three month followup for further evaluation if clinically indicated" 2. "STATUS POST CHOLECYSTECTOMY." 3. "ATHEROSCLEROTIC DISEASE".

My doctor is not telling me must except wait three months and see what happens. He thinks the nodule in lung is probably benign. I am 53 years old, non smoker, thought I was somewhat healthy. Now I am worried to wit's end. What should I be doing?

Keith

This is very common, to find lung nodules that are not malignant-looking. We do what you were told. Follow up with another scan in a few months, and only if it changes something else could be done.

regards,
Leo
