Does lymphoma cause parts of your body other than the lymph nodes to thicken up or get swollen when it spreads?

Thanks.

Hi Shin,

If I'm understanding your question right, I'd say the answer is yes .... other parts of your body will swell or thicken ..... as long as there is a gateway to them via the lymph nodes. e.g. My left leg swelled up to about 150% of it's normal size, but my doctor explained that there was a lymph node in my knee and that fluid was dripping thru it.

For me at least, my symptoms seem almost as if they were intermittant. They come and go (average time maybe 90 days). Some areas have been trouble free for a year and a half .... others are bothering me as I write.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply Orange Agent, I hope you're doing well.

I asked because my left lower+upper side of my back has gotten relatively thicker. The area around my spleen has also been rather thick for a year or so now... I went to the GP the other day and he said everything was okay, and that my minor scoliosis (the spine bending symptom, pardon my spl.) was probably putting imbalance on my muscle on my back. He also did a brief urine test and most of the things like white blood cells and protein levels were ok.

Just wondering if I should look into this more. I'm only 19 and have been experiencing bloatedness+minor discomfort in abdomen areas for a year or so now and recently some general aching around my body. Any advice is much appreciated. Smile

Hi again, Shin.

I have no medical qualifications whatsoever, but it does sound like you are suffering from some unusual conditions for being so young. And if there should be something amiss, finding out about it early greatly increases your chances of beating it.

Let's hope some others will ring in with their suggestions, but if it were me I'd consider calling my GP and telling him about your concern and that you'd like a second opinion, and see what he suggests.

Best of luck.

Hey Shin, I read your prior posts. I don't know why you think you have
lymphoma. Do you have other symptoms, swollen lymph nodes, fever,
night sweats, body itch, etc? If you have medical coverage you need to
have more tests. When a doctor, GP/PCP says " it's nothing" "don't worry
about it" or " your're fine" and you know your not it means they don't
have a clue. I know from your symptoms that I don't have a clue so you
need to keep a close watch on your health. I was sick for a year and
was told at various times, " that's normal" and "you have post nasal drip"
and "you have an acid reflux problem" before they finally dx'ed me with
Hodgkins Lymphoma. Good luck and keep us posted.

Thanks for your replies.

I'm very doubtful that the GP I previously saw will change his views much (to be honest I'm very skeptical of his actions). However I'll try to arrange an appointment with another GP I've never seen before... Might be hard since my parents won't help me - they think everything is normal too (I'd like to think too, but I'm just a bit concerned).

How were you diagnosed Life_101? I don't have any other symptoms than those I mentioned including tiredness/fatigue and some moderate headaches as well.
