ok, let me first start at the begining where I think this started; around 4-5 years back my bro and I where fighting and it ended up in me haveing a minor cuncution, (I hit my head on the entertainment center) shortly after (If i remember right it was a day) I started to have vision problems, my vision would get a small black staticy spot usualy in the perifrial part and it would spread into my center of vision and then slowly go away, I went to the doctor and they did this test thing where I get pushed into a tube and they said (i think) basicly everything looks good, I've been haveing this problem with my vision off and on like once every 4-5 months. About a couple years ago I started experienceing random (totaly random, from frequently to not at all) shivers down my left shoulder (or is it my right?) it feels like all my muscles in that area suddenly flex really hard and then I get an after strain for a couple seconds, next sysmtom was random ringing in my ears, this has started just last year and has happened about 3-4 times sence; my hearing would go out into a high tone that would slowly fade away (this would happen when there had been no peticularly loud sound and I was just doing my daily thing). Now just about 2 weeks ago I was at a sleep over at my freinds house when the back of my head (on the left side) started hurting (not really like a headache, more like just a constant pain) , this pain would start to get really bad during the evening anywhere around 8:00 and would last throughout the night as much as i can remember before I fall asleep, when I wake up it would be either just a light pain or gone completely (I am haveing this pain quite sevierly as I am writing this) a couple days after the sleep over I expirenced pressure and pain behind my eyes for about an hour, this has not happened again sence. last but not least just about 2-3 hours ago I started experienceing coordination problems, after I would get up from sitting or lying down I would feel as if I was still sitting or lying down and I would get light headed and almost fall over, this sparked my concern further and I looked up some things and found these forums and this site trough google: http://www.abta.org/symptoms.htm
I read on and I found that I have a good number of the symtoms listed.
My parents of course thought that the idea of me haveing a brain tumor was crazy, they reashured me and my mom told me to start going to bed earlier (I have been going to bed around 12:00-1:00am for a good deal of my summer break off of school), but this lightheadedness is scaring me.
here are my symtoms summed up in a whole including some that I have not mentioned yet:
-loss of vision (most likely caused my defisiantcy of bloodflow to my eyes)
-shocks going down my left (or right, I don't remember, I'm dyslexic) shoulder
-slight ringing in my ears
-large amount of pain in the back of my head on the left side, off and on dependant on time of day
-pressure behind my eyes (only one ocurance)
-loss of coordination and lightheadedness (just in the last hours)
-rapid eye movement, (my freind first pointed it out to me that he noticed that my eyes are constantly moveing slightly even when I am just looking at one thing, after I became contious of it I have noticed that I have a hard time stareing at small dots, like when you are doing one of those illution thingies)
-If I think of more I will reply with them as I am sure that I have missed something
My main question is: can tumor causeing cancer be activated by a disterbance as big as a minor cuncussion? I have learned in biology that there are viruses that after effecting a cell could be activated in this way, why not cancer cells?
also, if there are any experts here, do you think I very well might have a brain tumor and I should see a doctor imidiately? Or sould I just do what my mom has told me and start getting to bed eirlier?
PS: I am going to bed now, I will read for replys in the morning |

Hi Zen... I am no expert on brain tumors, but I don't think that a concussion would cause cancer in your brain. It does sound like you had a closed head injury (the concussion)> a brain injury can cause all of the symptoms you describe. Since the symptoms you describe are neurological in nature, it would probably be a good idea to have an exam and consult with a neurologist. They are well versed in symptoms and illnesses involving the brain. They may send you for another test in the tube (probably you had an MRI). This is one of the best ways to see what's going on in the brain. If it is cancer (sounds like a waaay long shot - but of course I am not a doctor) the neurologist would also be able to diagnose this. Get it checked out sooner rather than later -- and keep going to bed early!!! Being well-rested will probably help you no matter what's going on!!!
Take Care,

| Hey, as overly simple as this may sound, many of your symptoms match up with mine right before i was diagnosed with chronic ethmoid sinusitis. I have terrible headaches in a similar location, tinnitus (ringing in the ears) and some of the other things you mentioned. Because the ethmoid sinuses are located behind your eyes, increased pressure in this area due to infection could feasibly create the vision problems you are experiencing. I also had that horrible shiver/twitching you mention, excpt mine was in my eyelid. But whatever it is, just go get it checked by the doctor. |

| What is chronic ethmoid sinusitis? I read a little bit about it but I couldn't get a strait forward explanation of the symtoms and what it's caused by. My mom doesn't want to take me to the doctor because she doesn't want to "pay $80 for the doctor to say that it is just a sleep-schedule problem" |

| Well to start at the most basic level, people have four sets of sinuses. Any of these sinuses can become infected/blocked for innumerable reasons (including but not limited to: allergies, bacteria, fungus, structural problems, viruses, polyps, cancers, etc). An acute infections usually lasts less than six weeks and can be treated with antibiotics. However, if a person gets 4 or more infections a year, or is sick for at least three months straight, their infection can be considered "chronic". If you are like me, and have an infection in your ethmoid sinuses, you may never is think that your symptoms could be caused by a sinus infection, because most of us connect sinus infections with nasal congestion and the symptoms more common of an acute infection, which are usually found in the sinuses directly connected to the nose. The ethmoid sinuses are located farther back in your head, behind the eyes, and therefore present with different symptoms. I was finally diagnosed after having an acute infection (along with bronchitis) for about 4 months. I took antibiotics for a week or two and things seemed to get a little better. Then a few months later i began having many of the symptoms you described: insanely painful headaches, ringing in my ears, fatigue, twitching, ear aches, etc. The Dr. put my on very stong antibiotics and decongestants to see if she could get my sinuses to drain. Those meds made me very sick and I didnt get any better after a week, so I had a CT scan of my sinuses. It confirmed a case of chronic ethmoid sinusitis. I spent another month on antibiotics, which didnt work, so my case was deemed antibiotic resistant. I am now looking into nasal surgery. Sorry if this seemed so lengthy, but i wanted to give as in-depth info as possible. Also, it is much less stressful to be thinking you have a sinus infection than to think you have brain cancer! |
