If you are taking decadron pills to help shrink your brain tumor, be very aware of its side effects and how long you should take it during your treatment. For the recurrent cancer I had in 03-04, I was on the decadron med but on it for too long and should have been off of it sooner. I think I was on it for more than three months and had caused both my hip bones to become weak. During my fall 04 school semester I was having pains in my legs and hips, and I had a hard time walking to classes.

Eventually the decadron had eaten up my right hip bone and some in my left, but currently my left leg is still somewhat strong enough to stand on. But because my right hip was so severely messed up that a total hip replacement was needed. Currently I'm strengthening my hip and doing my exercises, but as for my left, the physical therapist said that eventually my left hip may need to be replaced down the road. I'm just hoping that I won't need another one and for the meantime I just continue to strengthening both my hips.

I also know another person from a support group who also took the decadron but was on it for many years and because of the pill, has osteoperosis.

It is scary that this little green pill can help shrink brain tumors, except can cause so much damage to a person! If you or someone you know is on this med, be careful and hope it only helps you, not harm you!

My husband has been put back on decadron due to swelling of his brain tumor area, although the brain tumor has been removed. I don't know what to expect. I do know that decadon makes him mean as heck!!! Was this true for you?
