We were told last Wednesday that my husband has 3 - 6 months to live due to lung cancer. We are still kind of numb....

The last Dr. we talked to said to let him know when the pain medication he is on becomes ineffective and we could discuss other meds. We have reached that point. He has been taking hydroco. I am trying to educate myself on what is "out there" as far as pain meds before we talk to the Dr.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to find information on what pain medications are out there and how well they are tolerated?

Any suggestion would be much appreciated.

We are believing God for a full recovery.

Thanks!

LaDonna, I am truly sorry that you and your husband are faced with this cancer and the pain that comes with it.

I don't know if there is a universally accepted course of pain medications. I would listen to my doctor and ask him/her what side effects to expect.

You may also want to ask about hospice care. Most hospices are staffed by wonderful people. And because they have access to your husband's medical files, they can be a great source for explanations.

I hope you don't get offended by this suggestion, but I found marijuana to help with my cancer related pain. If you live in CA it is fairly easy to acquire.

Thank you for responding to my inquiry. My husband passed away a month ago. Marijuana was recommended by our Dr. even though the penalty's are stiff here in Arkansas. It helped him a lot. Smile (and me).
