Hello--

My 70-year-old dad had a tumor removed from his rectal area last Monday (8 days ago) and he has yet to pass gas. The doctors don't seem to be too concerned, but I'm worried... Does anyone have any information/experiences with prolonged post operative ileus?

He did have chemo before the surgery. I wonder if that is affecting his ability to "bounce back."

Thanks for any information you may have.

I would suggest focusing on replacement of the intestinal flora. Anti-biotics and I am guessing Chemo destroy the bacteria in our intestines that we need for proper digestion. There are several natural products that provide support for intestinal flora supplementation or replacement.
Best of luck!
