WOW I am stunned I never thought I would be writing this. I have had some female trouble lately. Well I ended up in the ER on 8-12 and they did a D&C 8-17. Well I got the results today and no matter how much I thought I was prepared I wasn't.
I have Endometrial Cancer. I am waiting to hear from the Uof I hospital tomorrow about a consultation.
My GYN was so stunned by the results. He said that normally when there is Cancer there is a lot of tissue but there wasn't and the small amount he did remove was cancerous. He said there was a lot of blood present but not a lot of tissue and that they have a 90% success rate with a hysterectomy.
He said he normally doesn't see it in someone my age. I am 36 but that since I have Polycystic Ovaries it puts me at a higher risk.
I hadn't had a natural period since going off the pill when I got married in 1995. I had to have provera. My reproductive endocrinologist was happy if I had 2 cycles a year which I did.
I started having spotting in April and it just kept getting more and more until finally on 8-9 it was so bad. I spent two days in bed and ended up in the ER late Friday night early Saturday 8-12.
I am not sure what to feel at this point. So if you pray and an add me to your prayer list I would truly appreciate it.
I am hoping that the hysterectomy will be all that is needed and that I will be able to do some fall craft shows.
So if anyone who has been through this and can offer some insight please let me know what to expect. _________________ Shannon

I had seen a new chiropractor in February and about and hour after my 3rd visit I started spotting. I thought it was due to the adjustment as she used a different techique than my previous chiropractors. Most of april I spotted I thought it was just because I hadn't had a period without help since 1995 that my periods would be a bit different for a while. May wasnt so bad not as much spotting and a few days of a normal period but then june and july they gradually got more intense. The first week of July I had a few days of heavy bleeding. I think I only had 3 days of no bleeding the whole month of July. Then the 10th of August I started having super heavy bleeding with clots every hour. I called to get in for a check up and was scheduled for an appoint ment on 8-18 and an ultrasound on 8-22. Well by late friday night around midnight the heavy gushing was every half hour I went to the ER at 2:30am. They admitted me and did a vaginal ultrasound. Scheduled an outpatient D&C for 8-17. My GYN gave me something to stop the bleeding until the D&C.
All this time I haven't had any pain with the bleeding. The irregular bleeding was my only symptom. Other than being at risk due to PCO which I didn't know until yesterday that PCO increases the risk of EC.
Then the rest is in the post above. I have an appointment 8-31 with the ONC/GYN for a consult although my GYN said standard protocol would be to remove the uterus, ovaries, falopian tubes, cervix and 13 lymph nodes from around the uterus.
So we will see how things go next week.
In the mean time I am increasing the antioxidant intake. I already drink about a gallon of green tea a day. We have pizza or pasta at least twice a week so I am getting some tomatoes in the diet.
I got blueberries, strawberries, apples and some dark chocolate covered plums(boy are they good. They have antioxidant score of 16,000 per 100g serving. Not sure exactly what that means but blueberries only had a score of 6,200 per 100g serving.
I plan on making a lot of chili in the next few weeks with kidney beans, navy beans and legumes as they wer on the list for cancer fighting foods.
I love chili so that won't be a problem.
Also got some broccoli and carrots for snacks.
I am hoping they will help fight the cancer. _________________ Shannon

| If you have to undergo chemotherapy, make sure you discuss your diet with your chemo doctor. I had to stop my chlorella and spirulina during treatment, and a woman in my chemo group had to stop drinking green tea during her treatment. |

Thanks for the heads up. Right now my Onc/Gyn is very confident that surgery will be all I need. He did mention I might need internal radiation but we will cross that bridge when we come to it.
Surgery is scheduled for 10-9 so not much longer to go. _________________ Shannon

Hi,
Just reading your post on endometrial cancer, I just found out too this week that I have this. I am shocked! Yes, I had all the symptoms...the heavy bleeding and lots of clots, bleeding in between periods, periods that would last 3 weeks. This has been going on since March/06, but I was also told just prior to that that I have a fibroid tumor and that could cause heavy bleeding. After an episode of extremely heavy bleeding and passing huge clots in May, I went back to my doctor, who then referred me to a gyn dr. Had an endometrail scrapping done July 31, and was called back JUST THIS WEEK (Sept 26) to be told that I have cancer. Why did it take so long to get the results relayed to me??? Is this normal? I have written a letter to the clinic to have this looked into. I am scheduled for surgery on Nov 1. Emotionally, I have good days and bad days. Today is a good day and I feeling very positive. I also feel very healthy. Is it normal to feel so healthy and have cancer???
I wish you luck in you surgery, and hopefully, it will be just the surgery and no chemo or radiation necessary. That is what I am hoping for also. _________________ dmk |

DMK,
I am so sorry it took them so long to get the results back to you. It does seem a bit odd to me. I would question as to why it took so long. I too have good and bad days. As it gets closer to surgery I am having more bad days emotionally. I keep trying to do stress relieving things but some days I just don't fell like doing anything even though there is so much to get done before surgery.
I hope your time goes quickly and you too are on your road to recovery. _________________ Shannon

Hi Shannon,
I see your surgery is coming up and I just wanted to send good thoughts and wishes your way. I'm still recovering from my surgery (Sept 15) and all is going very well. I know you'll be relieved to get the cancer out of your body and it really helps to calm the nerves by focusing on that fact. Good luck and post an update when you're up and around again! |
