My MIL (67) was diagnosed with stage IV NSCLC lung cancer with mets to the brain in May 2006. The scan showed it had spread to adrenal glands. She had full brain radiation during the month of June. In July she began chemo. She went through one round and handled it very well. On the day she was supposed to start her second round, she met with her oncologist and told her of the severe headaches she had been having the last week. She went for an MRI the same day and it turned out the radiation didn't do anything as the brain tumor continued to grow and was causing a lot of swelling and pressure. We were told she needed to have it removed or she only had weeks. She went forward with surgery. It took her 4 weeks to recover, but she did. She had her second round of chemo last week. Today we had some bad news though. She went back for a follow-up MRI and there are two more small tumors on the brain. We are waiting to hear back from the doctor with what he recommends. We are scared to death. I feel like she wants to give up, but I don't think we are ready for her to do that yet. We don't know what our options are. It only took 8 weeks for her first brain tumor to grow from finger-tip size to the size of a golfball. We are going to sit down and talk to her tonight. She lives by herself and we feel we need to start looking at an alternative place for her to live. This is a horrible disease. I just found this forum earlier today and I guess it just helps to know that we are not alone in our fight. I wish everyone here good luck.

Well the doctor called and she is going to have gamma knife radiation on the two new tumors next week. Does anyone have any experiences, good or bad, with this procedure. We feel we are at least trying everything possible, but this is our last hope.
