Below is a post I submitted recently with no response. Since this last post my father's PSA has risen over half in 3 weeks (to 161). His treatments at this point are still every 3 weeks for 6 hours each time. They are planning to do a scan (finally) after the treatment today. I am just attempting to get some idea of what to expect and hopefully be more prepared when my mother starts to need my help caring for him. Any information would be greatly appreciated - good or bad.

I've been trying to get an idea of what to expect. My father is 82 years old and was diagnosed with prostate cancer 11 years ago. He had his prostate removed and about 3 years ago the cancer had moved into his bones. Over the past few years he had hormone therapy (which no longer works). For about 2 1/2 months now he has been on chemo but in the past 6 weeks his PSA has double every 3 weeks (when he goes for chemo). The doctor he sees is excellent, but likes to keep his patients in the dark as not to worry them. I'm interested in finding out how quickly it spreads once it is in the bones and what to expect as far as quality of life for my father over the next several months. He is is great shape as he rides his bike every day and goes to the gym as well. He has other medical issues which include diabetes (insulin dependant) and has a pace maker. Can anyone give me some insight as far as what to expect?

Have read a number of articles in the PAACT newsletters by various people including compassionate oncology who have had a lot of experience with advanced PC. It could be worthwhile reading some of their publications and contacting them for an opinion.
