My husband has just recieved CHOP treatment number 6 of 8 - about a month ago his hair started to re-grow all over it's now about 1cm long. When first diagnosed (agressive non-Hodgkins anaplastic T cell) he had a tumour removed from under his armpit and was told he had tumours in his abdomen (the initial symptoms were abdo pain & sickness after eating). His abdo pain & sickness has come back and now almost as bad as at the start. He has new swellings under his armpit and loads of pain there - the swellings go down after every chemo session but come back a week later. Doctor says the arm symptom is from scar tissue, and the abdo pain is from the steroids and will do no further tests unitl chemo is finished - gave him tramadol for the pain. It seems to us as though he is resistant to CHOP and the cancer has returned - can this happen during CHOP? (they tell us not!) What can we do?

Just an update - Dave went for Chemo this morning and saw a different doctor - his normal doctor was off - the new one listened. Had an ultrasound today around the arm which showed enlarged lymph nodes - CT scan due in the next couple of days. They won't discuss next course of action until full results are known. Talking about possibility of using a more agressive form of Chemo - don't know what that could mean yet...just one day at a time.

Hello, I read your posts and although I am not familiar with your type of
cancer and treatment (CHOP ) I wanted to post to wish you good news on
your tests. I had (have) Hodgkins and had ABVD chemo for six months.

I have read other posts about people relapsing in the middle of their chemo treatments.
The oncologist makes changes to their drug treatment and they proceed with the chemo,
usually with good results. Look at it as another bump in the road to recovery. I wish you the best.

Thanks Life - it's reassuring to hear that other people have had relapses during chemo and alternative treatments have been successful - I could not find anything anywhere on the net that describes this happening, and as stated earlier we were told this could not happen before they confirmed that it has! Maybe it's so rare that they just don't expect it.

Decision now made - Dave will be undergoing 9 weeks of ICE chemo followed by a stem cell transplant. Started the ICE 2 days ago and the tumours appear to be reducing again. Feels like such a long way to go yet, but good news found out one of my brother's friends has a relapse during chemo & underwent same treatment 5 years ago - she's just got the all clear.

The ICE didn't work, then the next treatment didn't work, then it spread into his spinal fluid and brain. Methotrexate didn't work - administered 19 Dec 2006. David died in my arms on 7th January 2007. He was 38. The doctor said he had never come across a more agressive form before. His funeral was 2 days ago. Now what? It still hasn't sunk in...

DonnaR, I am very sorry to hear that.

I am also coping with 2 cancer cases in my family. My grandmother passed away in December 2006 due to stomach cancer. Then my mum was diagnosed with Lymphoma shortly after.

It must be a difficult time for you. Be strong..
