I am so glad I found this forum my sister is battling a Oligdendroglioma grade 3 tumor and has been for 6 years. She has had 3 surgerys to remove tumors and 2 others due to complications 3 of her surgerys have been since October she is 25 and the mother of 2 wonderful little boys. She is back in the hospital right now due to seizures she has had 3 in the past24 hours 2 of those being grand Mal (not sure of the spelling). She has somehow managed to stay positive throughout this whole ordeal. They have been devastated financially as she is no longer able to work and her husband hs missed months of work this year due to her surgerys. The past 4 months have been hard on her she has had so many complications she contracted chemical meningtis because of the chemo wafers put on the tumor site she recoverd from that and a cyst formed on the tumor site requiring surgery. after all of that her incision would not close so friday she had surgery to close that. and then on sunday only 2 days after the surgery to close the wound she started having seizures. So once again she is in the hospital and her husband is missing work. They are unable to qualify for any assitstance and it is so frustrating to me I dont know how families get through this not only is it emotionally draining but financially as well. I nerver thought about how much cancer affects a persons life until my sister got sick it breaks my heart and I feel like there is no help for them. Anyways I have been feeling very lost in my emotions and thought this forum would be a great place to get info and have a place to talk with others who are exsperiencing the effects of cancer on their lifes.

Hi Chars,
I am so hear about your sister. I know it must be hard for you and family to watch her battle with this dreaded disease. I have also had a close family member battle with cancer. It is hard on everyone especially the children. It also takes a toll on each ones' health and also finances. This forum really provides a great support group. I wish I would have know about it over a year ago. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Michele

Thank you it has been a hard few months and I feel like I had no outlet I am hoping this forum will help me cope with all of this it seems all a little overwhelming some days are better than others. I try so hard to stay strong and positive but it gets hard. My sister is an amazing person she has never once felt sorry for herself she just keeps standing tall and fighting her cancer and has an amazing spirit and will to live we all continue to pray for a miracle.

Hi Chars,

I too have an Oligodendroglioma Grade 3. My surgery was in November 2005 followed by radiotherapy. So far, I am doing well. I have been on medications to keep me from having seizures since 1992 when I was first diagnosed with an Astrocytome. I am sorry to hear about your sister. It is not easy to deal with brain cancer of any type. Seizures (or the possibility thereof) are also not easy to accept. I have been seizure free since they changed my medication in med 2005. However, I am constantly sleepy and dizzy. Nevertheless, I am alive. All that I can tell you is to enjoy each and every day that you have with your sister. I will keep you and your sister in my thoughts and prayers.
