| I'm new here and this is my first posting. I went to a dermatologist today about a suspicious mole on my chest. It has spread and changed colour. I'm freaking out a little as he looked at it carefully, then with a scope. He said it looks very odd, and he said that with looking with the scope it looks even more odd and it needs to come off by a plastic surgeon and a biopsy be done. It is an odd shape, brown in colour with a new black spot on it. Its also raised (always has been) and has been itchy, which I am told is not a good sign. I am hopeful but gotta say freaking out a little! Any insight from anyone would be great right now, thanks alot! |

Hi ladybug2,
From what you said the most concerning to me is the itching, spread and color changing. Of course I'm not a doctor, but I have had melanoma and I would be concered about it with those symptoms. Don't know if you had this but another symptom that can occur which I've also had was scabbing. |

Hi,
Thanks so much for your reply. You mentioned that you had melanoma, is everything o.k. now? I'm scheduled to have the mole removed in a few weeks, and I am starting to get really anxious about the results of the biopsy. It's only itchy sometimes, not all of the time, I don't know if that makes a difference. The spreading and changing colour worries me, as you had mentioned. I hope everything is fine with your condition, thanks again. |

Try not to worry, I know it's hard not to though. My dermatologist recently took something suscpicious off of me a few weeks ago and it turned out ok even though it had some classic symptoms. He said that he's taken off stuff that looked like it and then it wasn't. My original Melanoma wasn't supicious at all to him when he biopsied it. My melanoma wasn't itchy all the time but when it was boy was it itchy. As time went along it began to hurt and bleed too.
When I was told I had Melanoma the hardest part is mentally, there are so many things running through your mind. I was told I had stage III last year, and it was in my eyebrow and I lost some of it from surgery but amazingly it's not that bad. I've had PET, CT, blood work, etc. A PET 3 months ago which was ok. I had a CT a few days ago that showed a small nodule on my lung. So I have to wait 3 months to have another again to see if it's growing, since it could be benign or malignant.
Again, try not to worry. If you do in fact have it a good place for info is at mpip.org
Later,
Jim |

| Thank you, Jim. Actually the part you said about one of your moles having the classic symptoms but it turned out benign made me feel a bit at ease. That's probably the most positive thing I've heard so far because, yes, I do have all of the classic symptoms and all I hear is negative. I don't want to be naive, but I can't let my worries consume me either! I have the surgery on March 12 to have it removed and it should be a week or so after for the results. Sounds like you've been through alot and still have a great outlook. That's awesome. Good luck! |

| Sorry, Jim I meant to comment on the nodule that was found on your lung. I'll think positive thoughts that it's NOT malignant! |
