I am a 26 year old white male. A few years ago I noticed a dark mole on my side and had a physician look at it, he didn't seem to be concerned. Flash forward about 18 months, and I decide to have it looked at again. This physician said it looked ok, but wouldn't hurt to remove. I had the mole removed, via punch biopsy. It came back precancerous but not cancerous. The physician said he as referring me to a dermatologist to have a larger piece taken out for the cells extended the length of the biopsy, but did not seemed overly concerned. How concerned should I be about this and are there specific questions I should ask the dermatologist? Are moles more dangerous if they are located on certain parts of the body?

Thanks for the help.

From what I understand your dermatologist removed the biopsy that was precancerous but didn't get it all out. They just need to do a wider excision. It's like this @ symbol, they got the center out just not the part around it. I don't know if this is the case with precancerous but I know that in my case with melanoma it spread to surrounding tissue and it couldn't be seen with the naked eye only with a microscope or dye. I wouldn't be too concerned since they're going in and removing the rest, since it's just pre right now.
