Hi all,
Does anyone have any information on MRI results? I am waiting to be informed of the results of an MRI I had on my right breast last week. My left breast has already been removed due to invasive ductal carcinoma. When I called the hospital to request a copy of my MRI report, they told me that they hadn't completed the report yet but they had called my cancer surgeon in New York to discuss something with him and he requested that I bring the actual films with me when I go next week. My last mammogram six months ago showed some irregular spots that were thought to probably be benign. I fear at this point that perhaps they are looking more like malignancy. Waiting is unbearable, especially since I need to purchase airline tickets to visit my family over Thanksgiving, but don't want to do so if I'm going to need another mastectomy. What kind of benign conditions might produce a white area on an MRI? If anyone knows, I'd appreciate it.

Just wanted to let you know I received my MRI report today, and unfortunately there is an area suspicious for DCIS. I've already lost my left breast to invasive ductal carcinoma, so I'm not happy about hearing that my right is now in jeopardy, but I'm relieved that it doesn't appear to be invasive at least. There is also another area of my right breast mentioned in the report that is described as an area of stable punctate foci of enhancement that are likely parenchymal. I am hoping Leo or someone else may be able to explain this for me.

Tracey,

Sorry to hear about these findings. Anyway, what they can tell from looking at imaging is: is this suggestive or not of cancer ? Is it worth going in for a biopsy ? It seems that the answer is yes for your case. When they mentioned the other area as stable punctate foci of enhancement means only that there is no change from previous exams. Radiologists can only describe what they see. It is the job of the oncologist or clinician to interpret the data and correlate with the clinical situation, and that is sometimes very difficult.

The bottomline is: you have a lesion that is likely malignant, and that you will need something done diagnostically about it. The other area I can't really comment on, your oncologist is certainly the best person to ask.

Obs: sorry I overlooked your post before, it is sometimes difficult to follow all the new threads here and answer them accordingly Smile.

best of luck, and keep us posted !

Leo
