Had a 1.35mm melanoma removed in feb 07, then had sentinal and surrounding lymph nodes removed from 3 areas, doc is talking about agressive surgury after finding two areas posative, am wondering if anyone can help me find pictures so i can understand more what agressive surgury will do to me, thanks heaps sonyakeddam@yahoo.com.au  |

I'm not exactly sure either, but there are two possible avenues your surgeon might be considering. One is taking a bigger margin around the primary site, many people do a 2cm margin. Second might be to do further lymph node dissection to try to remove any possible areas of recurrence. This may mean removing 10-15 lymph nodes. Since i posted that message a nurse from the sydney melanoma clinic has called me and asked if id like to talk with a man that has had the operation already. which i think will help me to decide if i should go ahead with the operation or not |
