Hello Everyone,

I'm posting for some advice. My mini story is:

I'm a 28 yr old mum of 2, and have been having some problems since before christmas. The first thing was a little lump which came up in my left armpit (no pain, just slight discomfort).
I was given some antibiotics to clear it up, but the following day i can down with a kidney infection and was given some excellent antibiotics for it (thus forgetting about the lump which went down anyway). I also had a blood count done mid Nov, and was told i have low white cell count (no treatment neccessary).

Around the same time, i also developed a sore throat and now still have a more husky voice, with a difficulty swallowing (it feels like i am holding my throat tightly) - not terrible, but uncomfortable.
I have also had an absolute tiredness which i just cannot shake and have been having breathlessness for about 6 months (i had astma as a child and assumed that it had returned).

My G.P referred me to ENT clinic in jan. I saw Dr there who arranged for bloods and a thyroid ultrasound (am due to go back in 3 weeks for result but am assuming nowt serious as it's been a few weeks since i had it done).

The only thing thats really bothering me is that i have a swollen lymph node above my right collarbone (it's been the same size since jan) - i think it's the supraclavicular. It feels about the size of a malteser and i think it might be pressing on a nerve of something because my right arm often feels like i've been given a 'dead arm'. I can feel a couple of much smaller bumps around the same area (but i'm not sure that they are abnormal). Also, i now have a dull aching in both armpits (although no lupms, bumps or anythings else).
I have also recently (last 2 weeks) developed a lump in my mouth, on the gum behind my bottom front teeth. This is only size of a small pea, but is quite hard, no pain though, the same goes for a lump behind my right ear.

I have read about Hodgkins and NHL and am a bit of a hypochondriac who assumes the worst, but am much more interested in hearing what other 'real' people think. Any advice guys?

Thanks in advance. Very Happy

Hi, oz_valdo,
I am glad you have started seeing a doctor for your concerns. Only a board-certified individual can accurately test and diagnose any ailment.

Do you know what kind of blood panel you had done? Were the results, other than the white count, discussed with you?

I am sorry that you are feeling worried; that fear can sometimes be worse than knowing what's wrong. Prior to my diagnosis, I was fatigued, but I cannot recall if I had tenderness from the swollen lymphs. I did notice swelling in both superclavical nodes. I didn't have a sore throat, but a persistent tickling cough and breathlessness (my inexperienced GP at the time misdiagnosed me twice in the ten months prior to any real testing; first with bronchitis, then with potential asthma).

I hope you will get other responses from folks on this forum. Don't be too hard on yourself and be concerned about hypochondria; that's a very desirable diagnosis compared to the alternatives Smile .

My best to you,
Jessica

Hi Jessica,
Thanks for your speedy reply.

I think i just had a full blood count (includes white, red and platelet?). My G.P said all 3 were low, but that the white were 2.3 something, but would prob just get better on its own.

I think you're absolutely right about waiting being nerve wracking! After my thyroid scan, i was convinced i had thyroid cancer (despite having never considered it), honestly, i can giggle at my own silliness now.

If i'm totally honest, the most worrying thing i've read about the R supra gland is lung cancer. I feel positive that isnt the case, but it does give you the willies to think a simple little thing can be something so serious.

Anyway, i am due at the ENT clinic on may 10th, so will just have to bide my time and think positive thoughts!

Thanks again, and do you have a blog/personal story page? I like to read other people's experiences, especially one with a good outcome.

x

Hi, oz_valdo,
How are things? Sorry not to have responded until now to your last question.

I wish I had a blog (and my very lame website has not been updated in almost 4 years and is only information about the course I teach); it's a good idea, however, perhaps to get one started. I will not be teaching this summer so I might have time.

I know you mentioned you will be going to the ENT clinic this month. I hope things go well, and that you have had a respite from the symptoms and worry you were concerned over.

My very best,
Jessica
