im currently taking care of my mother who is 42 and was diagnosed with pancreas cancer, it was stage 2 and they gave her 9 months. So far she had the whipple surgery which was extremely hard on her, she finaly recovered from it and then got struck with enema which is water in the limbs. she is currently in a wheel chair un able to walk or stand. she was on hydrocortozon but that pain pill wasnt strong enough so today me and my father went and got her some morphine from the pharmacy. she is doing pretty bad, she just zones out and nothing can get her attention, she thinks she has to use the restroom when she doesnt and she talks to people who arent present, the morphine isnt working that well and she is still in tremendous pain, i was told that once the morphine doesnt help its almost time, could someone tell me what to expect, is this normal?

I'm very sorry for what's happening to your mother. You have shared very few details & I know it's hard. Going by what my husband had suffered and using hospice care at home for about 12 days. I am 45 & my husband was 59 and his diagnosis of PC was 12/15/06 & he passed away on 12/31/06. We were told by MANY specialist he was ok for many weeks & had no time to prepare. You think it will never happen to you. Your first taken back by the medical community & then by the silent killer too.
Remember morphine will cause hullucinations and many other symptoms other pain meds don't. Your mother deserves to have her pain under control so your heading in the right direction. While my husband was on morphine a week or so his pain began to not be under control, so I had to seek other undesirable measures. I suggest you talk to your doctor & consider hospice care at home or in a hospital. I can't praise them enough...God bless them.

My prayers are with you
