Hi everyone, I am here for my dad, who has some odd symptoms and a mass that I wanted to talk to you about. About 22 years ago my dad had Hodgkins. He had the typical symptoms of swollen nodes in his neck, night sweats, and a mass the size of a grapefruit in his chest. He received radiation and survived! He is now 51 years old.

About a month ago, he started having a lot of acid in his stomach and his stomach kept gurgling a lot, and also experiencing sharp pain in his abdomin area, with nausea and vomiting on 3-4 occasions. He had a CT scan that showed a mass that was surrounding his small intestines and aorta. All of his surrounding organs looked clear, though. When he visited an oncologist for the first time last week, he said the mass is between the spinal cord and the stomach, so toward the back of his abdomin. The oncologist is worried that it may be NHL (sorry, I am assuming this is the correct acronym) and he will have a needle biopsy next week. He did say it was in a tricky location and not easy to get to, so any type of surgical biopsy or surgical removal would be difficult.

If you have any experience with these symptoms or if any of this information sounds familiar, I would love to hear your feedback. Thank you and please help if you can. I am worried about my poor dad and feel awful for my mom since this is her second time around having to go through having a sick spouse. I was only four when he had Hodgkins, so I never had to feel the heartache the first time around. Believe me, I'm feeling it now. Crying or Very sad

Thank you and take care!

Marie

scareddaughter,
Continue working with your medical team to obtain a biopsy. If there is something abnormal there, get some tissue. A lot of speculation may make the situation worse. Good luck.

A needle biopsy isn't enough to obtain an acurate diagnosis, they need to remove a node.
