My mother finally got the news yesterday that she has a tumour on her prostate. It has grown around a blood vessel and cannot be operated on. Her only chance is for radiotherepy treatment and if that fails then it is termial.

Whilst i am still in shock i would like to know if anyone has any advice as to what to expect as in moods and the physical stature of my mother in the coming months?

Also does anyone have any advice as to hyelp with my own emotional state as i know when it hits me it will be like a freight train.

I just wanted to say that just because no one as replied it does not mean people don't care. As I have found out, every case is different and no one knows what to expect.

Surely you made a mistake and mean that your mum has a tumor on her pancreas. We on this forum know only about pancreatic cancer, either from personal experience or because of a loved one. We don't know anything about prostate cancer, particularly as it occurs among women. Confused

Bit of an update since i first posted the message.

It is defo pancreatic cancer that my mother has. She has been allowed to have chemotherepy and in fact had her first shot of it today. Although they still think that it will be terminal. I am sort of happy that it is hopefully going to buy us more time to get things sorted out properly and allow me and the rest of the family time to spend with her.

Since i last saw my mother she has lost so much weight and looks really old now. It shocked me to bits and i am having a hard time emotionally over it. I am not showing it in front of her though as she has enough on her plate to deal with.

I am used to seeing bad things in my line of work but i suppose when its someone you love so much its a whole new level of hurt.

Also i am away on a course with my job at the moment so thats a hard thing to accept. Being away from my wife, who has been fantastic in supporting my mood swings and also being away from my parents is well hard. Also with a detachment to the gulf coming up for 4 months i am not doing to good. But i will battle on through it and there are loads of people willing to help out there and that helps me not to give up on life.
