that would cause me to feel I have a swolen neck (for about 6 weeks +).
The doctor advised me there is nothing to worry about but I am scared to death. I am booked back in next week for another opinion but I just wondered if there is a regular non-serious reason why this may happen.
I am also have a strange feeling in my stomach, and a sort of ache at the top of my left arm?
Does this sound serious? |

Hi,
I am sure there are many reasons why your neck could be swollen. Your own medical team are the ones to diagnose your problem. Tell your medical team about your other symptoms as well. They may or may not be related. Keep us informed and good luck. _________________ Jim

cheers for that, I will be going back (hopefully next week).
It's rather scary as when you google persistant swollen glands it doesn't come up with too many other options. (I know I should not use that as a diagnosis but it is still scary).
The doctor last time sent me for blood tests which came back all fine, which again is another reason I am scared, as it shown my blood to be normal. (must be something else then???)

Hi the count,
Waiting can be hard and scary! However, in your initial visit to the doctor he/she told you that there was nothing to worry about. Going on that, I assume that the doctor is not concerned that it is something that is life threatening. I know that I would still want to know what it is that is causing the swelling. Good luck and I will be thinking about you. _________________ Jim

I know nothing can be diagnosed via blood tests, but if I did have some form of Lymphoma would it show an abnormality (something that they would call me in for further tests)?
Sorry for the 100 questions.
Any idea
Thanks again

Specific disease can't necessarily be diagnosed soley through your blood count, but it can tell a lot about how your body's functioning and point the doctor in the direction for further testing. High white cells can indicate infection or other things. I've pasted a link below that discusses the CBC and also in relation to different cancers. Here is a quote from the site regarding lymphoma: "Patients with lymphoma often have disturbances in their blood cell counts as the lymphoma may suppress red blood cell production, or because the lymphoma has spread to the marrow and suppresses all blood cell types. The lymphoma cells may enter the blood and produce high white blood cell counts made up of lymphoma cells (abnormal lymphocytes)."
When I was diagnosed with lymphoblastic lymphoma, I did not remember my lymph nodes being swollen like others have described. I did feel run down a little, but what sent me to the doctor's was a pain in my left side, near the back. Doctor at first tried to tell me was a pulled muscle, week later, chest x-ray showed my left lung was completed filled and right lung starting. They thought it was pneumonia at first, but CT scan showed the masses. Even then they had to confirm by sending the stuff from my lungs to be tested.
I would definitely make sure to explain all your symtoms, but there are so many things besides cancer that can cause that. It's hard not knowing even if the chances of having something really bad are low. Be persistent, but try not to worry (I know, easier said than done). Hope all goes well!

I went to see a second doctor this morning, and she said that she cannot feel anything swollen, but has reffered me for a scan at the hospital.
My mind won't ease until I have had this scan, but it must be good news if they cannot feel anything by touch. |

It is good news that 1. she could not feel a lump and 2. that she ordered a scan. If the scan is negative, then you can be very confident that you do not have cancer. I will continue to keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Let us know about the scan. _________________ Jim
