I am new here, have been reading the forum for about two weeks. Its a great forum.
My father was diagnosed with a Grade IV Glioblastoma January of this year. They did surgery and removed to tumor. He then had a second surgery because he had a hemmorage. He recovered well from the surgeries, and since has had 6 weeks of Radiation with chemo concurrently and then was on temodor 5 days on 23 days off.
Had a scan in april, showed no growth. Had a scan June 25 showed small growth 2 -3 cm round. This growth and the original growth were in the front right lobe of the brain.
Doctors have given us two options -- another surgery or Gamma Knife.
We have opted for Gamma knife, as the surgery can also be done after Gamma knife. Anyone have any thoughts, contributions, stories or opinions about Gamma Knife? Please share any Gamma Knife experiences you may have.
THANK YOU! |

My dad's GBM was inoperable so I'm sorry I can't help in that area, but I did want to welcome you to the forum. There are a great group of people on here that can offer you support, advice, experiences and help you through this time. I wish your family the best outcome through this illness.

Sorry to hear about your Dad's GBM diadnosis. It's a hard road this one. Thinking of you & prayers for your Dad & your family.
This is a great forum. Keep in touch. Lots of good info & inspiring personal experiencs & comfort for your during this rough journey.
Sorry I don't know anything about gamma knife therapy. We live in Australia & we're fairly backwards compared to US or UK cancer treatments. My brother was diagnosed with GBM IV in Feb 07 & was told it was inoperable because it was on his brain stem (under 1cm in size). His condition worsened quickly altho he was having chemo & radiotherapy. Surgeon debulked tumour in May (5 hr surgery) & couldn't remove all of it. My brother has been disabled from the surgery (like he's had a stroke & his whole L side no movement since). Last MRI 5 wks ago no sign of tumour & with no cancer meds for 6 wks from surgery.! A bloody miracle we believe. He has started again on temodal 5 days on 23 off. Will have another MRI soon after current chemo treatment cycle finishes. Will keep you posted on progress. Cheers Aussie Angie. _________________ Brother diagnosed with GBMIV Feb 07

| Hi and unfortunately welcome (I say this because I wish you didn't have to be here). I don't know anything about gamma knife, but wanted to let you know you, your father and family are in our thoughts and prayers and I wish you all the best through this tough time. How old is your father? Please let us know how he is going and what treatments he is undertaking. My partner has the same GBM as your father and also the same treatment except for 2nd surgery, so I would be interested in hearing of your fathers treatment and how he is doing. This forum is terrific - I started on it last year but then didn't get back on for awhile. I now find it extremely helpful and comforting. All the best, take care & love to all. Jen |
