I am concerned about this number. I am 200 lbs 5`8`` and about 20 lbs overweight. Last year my PSA number was 3.5 now its 4.25 I had every test done including a CT scan and a full blood work up. Everything came back normal. Now the want to do a biopsy. Does this hurt?? And how accurate is the test?. I do have sex quite often thank god .I also have pain on my left testi that comes and goes. So they sonogram the fellas. The only thing they found was a speracite little ball?? and said its nothing to worry about. What is a good PSA number or is there such a thing? I am kind of freaked out by this whole thing. with no experience or knowledge on what a prostate even does>

JPNova, I cannot tell you that you do not have cancer. However, I can tell you that a PSA of 4.25 can be explained by many other things other than cancer... sex prior to the test being one of them.

As for the biopsy, are they doing a needle biopsy? If so, it is relatively painless. However, if they cannot detect it on a CT the likelihood of a false negative is high.

It is easy to say "don't worry" but it is quite a different thing to actually do that. However, worrying is bad for your overall health. Try to find some activity that will help you to relax. If you feel like you are having panic attacks, your doctor(s) can prescribe medicines to help with that too.

Good luck and God bless you.

Although your PSA is relatively high for your age, there is no such thing as a normal PSA reading: infection/inflamation and size of the prostate can influence the readings.

You could have a "free PSA" test which gives a better indication of the probability of PC
