My father has been suffering from back pain and stomach issues (diarrhea, constipation and cramping) since November 2006. His gastrologist just did a sonogram on Thursday last week and discovered a mass on his pancreas and 2 spots on his liver- also his lymph nodes are swollen. The gastrologist said it is most likely cancer. My father is scheduled for a biopsy and blood tests in a few days but I have become skeptical that it could be anything but cancer. I am concerned, after my reading here, that he could be far along since his symptoms started last year. Could it be anything other than cancer? Any ideas would be great to stop my worries. My father assumes that every doctor is a quack and that this is all nothing.

If he has had these symptoms since November 2006, it is certainly "something." I am sure that there could be other things that could cause these symptoms. However, the danger is that it is cancer (origin unknown at this point) but that it has spread to various organs. If this is the case, he will need immediate and aggressive treatment! The biopsy will reveal a lot. God be with you and with your father.

my father ended up with a diagnosis- stage 3. He has started chemo, his status changes minute by minute. One issue that I was wondering about is that he has blood clots in both legs that are now being treated with blood thinners. The doctors just can't get the dosage right so he has his blood tested every other day and the dosage adjusted. Has anyone else had similar issues? Our doctor hasn't been clear about if this is even related to the cancer. We are so unhappy with the care that we are looking at alternative treatments and centers. Does anyone receive treatment from Cancer Center- all over the country but specifically Zion, Illinois. We have an appointment for evaluation but have heard that it is a 'money pit'. We were really hopefully when we found them because they have a strong focus on diet (my dad isn't eating anything) and do low dose chemo. Any thoughts?

kinsey.banch, I am so terribly sorry that your father has died. I know you came here for advice and answers and we had few to give. You continue to be in my thoughts and prayers. My father did of leukemia complications almost one year ago so I know what it is like for me to loss my father. God be with you and your family.
