Hello, My Friends,

I met Luciano Pavarotti several years ago when he was performing in New York. Tomorrow or the next day I might tell how and what subterfuge I used to squeeze my way into his space and what he said to me. But I write today because Pavarotti is at this moment at home in Italy breathing his last breaths after a year of pancreatic cancer torment.

I wonder if there's a special place in heaven for the sufferers of this horrid disease and I wonder if my brother, who loved the fine tenor voice of Luciano as much as I did and who died last December, will be waiting for him. Geoff was a great bass. Perhaps they will sing together. What a duet that would be.

May all our loved ones rest in peace.

Big Sister Pat

Oh goodness, Pat... thank you for telling us about Luciano Pavarotti's condition. Part of the tradition I inherited and shared with my father was a love for the Opera and for Luciano Pavarotti in particular. Every Saturday afternoon, we would listen to the Opera on our local PBS radio station. It was probably one of the most precious memories I have of my father and one of the only times that we really talked much. My father was a baritone and music leader in his church. I am sure they and your brother will be singing in Heaven.

I just read the tragic news that Luciano Pavarotti died Thursday in his home town of Modena, Italy of Pancreatic Cancer. As some of you know, this is a very painful loss for me personally not only because I am a lover of Opera and Pavarotti specifically but also because my father was one of his biggest fans. My father died September 9, 2006 so this is a very sad reminder of my loss. My father was a baritone and I am sure the two of them are singing beautiful music in heaven right now. I am crying tears of great grief and loss.

I HATE CANCER!!!!
