Hello...i am new to this forum and I guess I am here to get realistic views and opinions.

Just last week, my dad had a biopsy done and he was told that he has lymphoma. Today, he was told that he has non-hodgkins stage 3 lymphoma. They had to do the bone marrow biopsy too. He is starting his chemotherapy this Friday.

I guess my question would be what is the prognosis on such case? I have looked up information online but I believe that experiences either your or someone you know say a lot more. Thank you.

Hi, I had stage 4 3 years ago. I went through 6 months of chemo every other week. It sucks, Its hard and its not fair, but in the end I beat it. The best advise I have to give is for your dad to follow his oncologist's every direction, and just as importantly keep a positive attitude. I really didnt feel I got better until I MADE THE DECISION that I was going to get better. It is really amazing how much attitude plays a role in recovery.

It is hard to give you a prognosis without knowing more about your father's case. However, in general, his odd of surviving more than 5 years seem to be rather good (as compared to other cancers). However, I always remind people that a prognosis is just a statistical probability. If I believed my prognosis, I should have been dead at least 5 years ago. Who can say that your father will be among us long term survivors?

I will be thinking about and praying for you and your father.
