My husband has PC and is considering all the options. This question is for anyone who has had the surgery and ultimately a recurrence. What was the time period from the surgery until the PC again reared its ugly head. Thanks,

Question

My father in law had a psa of 6, but the tumor was large enough to be felt. He had the traditional surgery. His PSA began rising again after 11 years. He received radation treatment and it is back to 0 again. He is now 78.

All depends on the pathology report after surgery and a lot of luck. In general, if you can remove the prostate when the cancer is in the early stages and it has not penetrated the the outside wall of the prostate gland, and the cancer is classified as the non agressive cancer like Gleason 6, then the odds are in your favor that it will not return. Nothing is 100% sure, but if the cancer is confined to the prostate, your chances of being cured are 90% as indicated by research at John Hopkins.
