Hello to all, It's been a while since I've posted anything & just wanted to let you all know things are steady with my brother, Mark! He is showing no symptoms of the tumour progressing & has made very slow progress with his rehab. Still in a wheelchair, much to his frustration. He had a setback a week ago & damaged the ligaments behind his kneecap so the rehab will be even slower now for a while. His next MRI is in 2 weeks time. He has just finished his last course of Temodal & if there's no increase in tumour size after MRI, Mark believes Dr will continue Temodal on a 5day on / 25 day off regime.
I went to visit him a month ago & he was in good spirits the first day & very quiet & unresponsive the 2nd day. His wife says he's like that alot & I can fully understand why.
I have been reading the posts on this forum, in the interim & it has been emotional at times as well as inspiring. May God bless all & I'll keep you all in my prayers. Cheers, Aussie Angie. _________________ Brother has GBMIV

Angie, I am glad to get an update about Mark and do hear that everything is moving along "normally." It is good that you got to spend sometime with your brother. When you say that he was "unresponsive", do you mean that he was just not interested in a conversation? I had times when I was like that . Mostly, it was due to my depression.
As always, I still keep Mark and you in my thoughts and prayers. _________________ Jim

| Hi Angie, thanks for keeping us up to date about Mark. I'm glad to hear that the tumour has not shown signs of progressing. Sorry to hear that he has had a set back with his knee. I know what you mean about not being responsive. I know with my partner Andrew - he can go through the same symptoms - not so much with me but with other people. I think because I spend so much time with him and am so intuned to his moods and feelings I pick up very quickly if he needs time out etc. I know when other people are here that don't fully understand that sometimes things get a bit overwhelming for him or he just gets mentally tired from conversing. We have spoken to a pyschologist about these things and apparently they are normal reactions after someone has brain injury / surgery. I know in Andrews case he sometimes has trouble when there are a couple of people talking or if there is alot of background noise etc (kids / loud talking adults (which is his brother) but it may seem normal conversation or background noise to us. All it takes is for me to see the look in his eyes change or his body language and I can tell he needs time out. Also as Jim said depression can cause this as well. Unfortunately well intentioned family and friends don't pick up on this and think that he is withdrawing but really all he needs is a little time out and to catch up with them in small doses. Hope this makes sense. Anyway I hope things progress well for Mark. My love and thoughts are also with you and the family. Love to all. Jen. |
