Hello everybody, my mom has CLL (chronic lymphocytic leukemia) for the past 5 years. Very recently, i have been experiencing extreme sweating during the day and some at night. I also have been very very itchy daytime and last night it was horrible. On the right side of my neck, i feel a very small hard lump. I am also very fatigued. Needless to say, i am worried and wondering if this can be a sign of leukemia or lymphoma. I would appreciate any help or advice. I do have a doctor appointment on Monday and i wll tell him everything! Thanks!
Michelle/NYC
I also forgot to mention that my mom has been in watch and wait for 5 years with her only symptom being that she is anemic. She goes for blood work every 3 months. Thanks! |

Hi Michelle, that I know of, the is no hereditary connection for either leukemia or lymphomas. Your symptoms could be anything... including possibly lymphoma. But most likely it is an infection of some kind. I hope it is not CLL or lymphoma but I cannot tell with any degree of certainty that it is not one of them. Simple lab test can give you a better idea. Beyond that, they will probably need a biopsy of this lump and/or of your bones. I would not worry or panic but I would continue to work with my doctors to try to identify the cause(s) of your symptoms. They all may be related or due to different things.
I suppose there is a possibility that if your mother and chronic anemia you could to, but that is just a guess on my part. I do not know if there is any hereditary connection associated with that either.
Best wishes and please, keep us informed. This community learns and leans on each other to learn and for support. _________________ Jim

Hi Michelle,
I agree with Brainman/Jim. Have the Dr check it out and get lab work done. I had very simular syptoms when i found a lump under my armpit/ side breast. I was having sweats and fatigue etc.
My Dr said it could be from anxiety. I thought- yeah right. Anyway i had a whole lot of lab results and all my syptoms got worse. By the time I got my results i was a mess- red welts from itching and sweating really bad of a night etc.
Got results everything was fine. took a hour and eveything else dissaperared. It must have been anxiety- who would have guessed.
Hope this helps put some of your mind at ease.
Let us know how you go with the DR.

Hi Jim and Inica,
Thanks for responding to my kind of ranting questions. I did go to the doctor today and told him about my symptoms and that my mom has CLL. He told me that there is little chance that it is inherited from parent to child but he did a full blood work up and i will find out on Thursday. I told him about my sweating and itching and again he said lets wait until we see the blood work. He checked my lymph nodes in neck and said he didn't feel anything. I feel slightly better today since i saw him and also since i read your responses. Is it ok to let you guys know on Thursday about my blood work? I don't want to panic, it is better for my blood pressure to stay calm! Anyway, hope you guys are feeling well and staying as healthy as possible! Thanks!

Michelle, I am glad that you went to the doctor. Yes, please let us know what the test results show.
By the way, start keeping a medical journal. Get any kind of notebook and list questions and answers, medications, phone numbers... anything you might need at the doctor's office, at a hospital, or even here. I journal and find it to be very valuable.
Best wishes. _________________ Jim

Hi,
I didn't respond to your post because I know nothing about the kind of cancer you were talking about.
I am so happy that the labs turned out good and that they have ruled out cancer. I'm sure your doc will, but keep an eye on your liver enzymes with the Lipitor. I'm on Crestor and since I see my oncologist every 6 months, he checks that and my cholestrol levels so I can avoid an added blood test when it can all be done at the same time. Crestor hasn't affected my liver and I don't think it happens a lot, but definitely needs to be kept tract of.
Congrats again!!!
Anyone that knows me, knows that my animals are my "kids", so when I talk about my animals in the same sentence as a person, it's a compliment I know you said you were itching. I don't know what part of the country you're in, but I'm in No. AL where we've been in the severe drought catagory last year and even more so this year. All my dogs are going to the vet Sat. because of constant itching and not even benadryl is helping them. My cats aren't itching, but they never go outside. I have to believe it's because of the weather, it's drying their skin out as well as mine. Maybe try something with oatmeal/aloe vera to soothe your skin and maybe that will help with the itching??? Just a suggestion. _________________ Nancy

Hi Nancy,
Thanks for your well wishes! When my doctor told me about my liver functions i did tell him i have had those type of readings for years and none of my doctors ever seemed too concerned. I was tested and retested for hepatitis and it always came back negative. I looked up lipitor and it did say to be careful if you have liver problems. So, now i am concerned if i should even take it. My cholesterol is 267 and my LDL is high at 186. What can high liver enzymes mean? Sorry, i am a worry wort. I don't like to take too much medicine but if lipitor will help me i will try it. I guess the cancer i was worried about is leukemia as my mom has CLL. Today, i was very itchy but it is humid and rainy here. My skin is on the dry side so maybe you are right. I will try oatmeal/aloe vera! Thanks for the suggestion! I hope you are doing well! I don't know your story can you tell me please? Take care!

Hi Michelle,
There are so many things that can cause liver enzymes to be elevated and it depends on which ones are elevated. I have a friend who's always had elevated liver enzymes and they have checked everything possible and everything checks out fine. If you take meds, some, including tylenol can cause them to go up. My PCP does a blood test that checks for fatty liver. Mine is high, but from everything I've read, it's not recommended (something like GSP??) unless the "regular" liver enzymes are abnormal.
I'd try the lotion and see if that helps. We've had rain every now and then, but with it so seldom, it hasn't helped my skin or my furbabies.
My bio is at the bottom, but most is abbreviations, and unless someone's had breast cancer, most wouldn't make any sense. I was dx Stage III, Invasive Lobular Breast Cancer on Valentine's Day, 2002. My mammogram missed the lump that I found and I was told that the ultra sound was read to say it was a cyst and to come back in a year. I didn't know then what I know now and that is that no test can tell if something is B9 or malignant, just that there is something abnormal. I didn't wait a year even though I was told I was "too young". I called a surgeon and had the lump removed. It was already 5.5 cm and I had 9 positive lymph nodes out of 16 removed that were also cancerous. I opted for a double mastectomy because Lobular is prone to mirror itself in the other breast. I had 6 months of chemo (the FEC are the 3 chemo's I had.....abbreviation) and then 33 treatments of radiation. They don't call it Remission with BC, but instead it's NED (No evidence of Disease). I had my check up Tues and I'm 5 1/2 years NED
I wish you all the best and please keep in touch and let us know how you're doing. _________________ Nancy

Hi Nancy,
Wow what a story...i am sorry that you had to go through all that! Congrats on 51/2 years with NED. I hope it continues for you and you live a long and happy life.
I am having a problem with my mom now. I have reason to believe she was misdiagnosed 5 years ago. I am not sure what she has but it is related to leukemia in some way. I am in the process of finding a CLL or leukemia specialist and getting a 2nd opinion. Not an easy task when my mom wants no part of it. I just wonder if i should leave it alone as she is 80 years old and doesn't seem to have any symptoms. But, i can't leave it alone...it bothers me and i need to know for sure!!!! I will somehow persuade her. If i accompany her i think she will go.
Anyway, i hope all is well with you!!! Thanks for your concern!
