I have had an enlarged lymph node on the side of my neck for several months. I went to the doctor about it & she did a CBC which turned out normal & then sent me for a CT neck scan. The scan results showed I had some enlarged nodes but said they all looked normal. Would the CT scan definitely rule out cancer? I'm thinking that maybe I should have requested a larger scan that would've include my chest & under arm area. My guess of the size of the node is about 1 -1.5cm.
Any suggestions of what I should do would be appreciated.

Hi Carmen,

If you are still worried then you can ask your Dr to run a simple test on your lymphocites. It will show if they are elevated and will alert them if there is anything to worry about. But these are questions you should ask your Dr. A CT scan by itself couldn't totally rule out cancer so if you are worried go back to your DR.

Thanks Emily -

I plan on getting a 2nd opinion. I got a copy of my Ct Scan & the size of my largest node was 8mm which isn't enough to alarm them. But it still bothers me. It actually feels bigger then that...you can see it on the side of my neck. And on top of that I have been extremely tired these last few weeks. Thanks for the info. on the lymphocytes....I'll ask about it when I go.

Thanks for posting. It is impossible to diagnose cancer just by looking at a CT scan. It can point to a diagnosis, but the only way to confirm the diagnosis is by doing a biopsy. Like you said, if you are not reassured you can always seek a second opinion.
