I am copying and pasting part of an article I came across:

LONDON - A DNA test for the virus that causes cervical cancer helps detect potentially dangerous lesions earlier than the commonly used pap smear technique, Dutch researchers said on Thursday.
The test could mean fewer screenings for women and ensure that they receive earlier treatment for lesions that might lead to cancer, they said in the journal Lancet.
"It is a better test because you pick up more lesions," Chris Meijer, a pathologist at VU University Medical Centre in Amsterdam, said in a telephone interview. "And because you pick them up earlier, you have more time to treat the women."

thanks for the info Jim but the new procedure everyone is buzzing about is still in the clinical research procedure, doctors say we still have to have paps and that new procedure may eventually make paps obsolete but as of right now it's more trouble than it's worth. it shows all cell growth associated to all types of HPV but it sends more false possitives than reliable information at this time. paps are still the more accurate procedure as of yet. b/c with every false possitive a woman is put through emense pain and discomfort than she needs to. just thought i'd let you know that..in my heart always, kat _________________ My Story : http://cancerforums.net/viewtopic.php?t=7371

At least it's a step forward. We can't winge and spread ill words beacuse noone is willing to try or find new and better prevention cures, or treatmenrs.
So good on them- it should be better after the trials hopefuly.
a step forward. _________________ Thinking of you Inica

well yeah that's true inica, especially with this type of research. i hate this stigma behind it!!! but unless both of you have already thought about this; i just thought i'd like to remind you the " new HPV DNA test " i heard about and read about that is suppose to be so spectacular and groud breaking for us women still requires us to disrobe and spraul out for some man ( usually the case with gynos ( go figure) ) to put his whole dang face and hands into our vagina's and get his jiggy on with us without us being able to call it rape or anything in order to get this ground breaking information required to discover the virus or worse in the first place!! huh, not so ground breaking is it? still pretty degrading and earth shaking uncomfortable to me!! sorry bad day today; not sure why i still get those, i guess my bipolar disorder makes my " after shock" seem worse and last a bit longer than others maybe? or maybe this is normal; how am i suppose to know? oops sorry again; been ranting all day!! _________________ My Story : http://cancerforums.net/viewtopic.php?t=7371

dragonmon, I cannot imagine what you have to go through for a cervical examination. The closest thing I can compare it to is a prostate examination for a man.
Having said that, will it ever really be possible to diagnose cervical cancer without the embarrassment? I hope one day they will find a tumor marker test that is sensitive enough to pick up an early stage cervical cancer.
I do hear what you are saying and really feel for all women. It seems so unfair that you women have to endure so much just to keep the human race going.
Finally, and this is not a small matter in my opinion, we have some real dialogue on this particular forum . Hopefully, other women who are struggling with this cancer will find this forum and be helped by the two of you _________________ Jim
