Hi I am new here. I have some things I want to ask and I really need to get some of this stuff just off my chest. I have been through this long ordeal of cancer once before with my brother when he was 17-20. He had a non-Hodgkin’s lymphatic cancer caught at late stage 3. It was a very hard time for me, I was 10 when it started. I spent a lot of time in the hospitals and it has kinda always haunted me. Turned out great with him in the end however and he is a happy father of two wonderful children today.

Now it turns out that my mom has a very large polyp ( an inch in diameter ) that was found during a rectal repair surgery / infection cleanout / rectum tear repair yesterday from a prolapse repair the week before. Those are bad enough in themselves, but now they found this. The doctor did not mince words about the fact that we will be addressing this as soon as her current surgery has healed. Within 2 weeks or so. They said it was pretty far up there. She had a colonoscopy 2 months ago and they somehow missed this. She has prior to this had malignant melanoma that they caught at a stage 2 on her arm and did an excision. There was no spread according to the doctor. This happened around one year ago. Prior to that she had cervical cancer and had 90% of her uterus removed. Postop testing showed clear results as well with that. There is an extensive family history on her side relating to cancer. All manners shapes and forms amongst her sisters brother and parents. They did not biopsy the polyp yet as that would complicate the current repairs. However I am not sure they are even intending to biopsy it. Will they just remove the entire section around it and do the colonamy? If so does this mean that she will have the bag for her stool? What are the chances of this being cancerous and at what stage? 1 inch sounds pretty freaking large.

It is just hard for me to gear up for this battle again. I keep thinking in the back of my mind that I should hold out hope and it might not be cancerous. However the realistic side of me says I should prepare now. We are waiting a few days to tell her about the findings as she will get really high strung over this, and she is already going to be there for at least 5 more days. I keep telling myself to just keep it together. I have said that a few hundred times already and I just so do not want to have to deal with this evil disease again. It tries the hearts of those that are close and love those affected so very much. I feel like I am ten again and walking the halls of a hospital wondering if my family member will survive this time.

Jollymon-

It sucks and vent all you want- thats what this site is about. For help and a ear. I am a pro to lifes little 3's. (bad luck comes in 3's myth) And i say MYTH!.

Anyway. Try to stay positive and do all the other things you should do. Wink Relax, don't stress etc.

I know it's hard and scary, but you have help, and suport here. And your mum will need you, as you will her. It is fantastic the Dr has found this though- a bright side. And is doing something about it ASAP.

So you have a plan, a positive and a action.

Take Care and vent anytime....let us know how things go.
